Alice Perry for Labour’s National Policy Forum

Alice Perry for the NPF

Why I am standing:

London is one of the richest cities in Europe, but is blighted by extreme inequality. We have all seen this. Sometimes you just have to cross the street and you’re in a different world. A small distance in where you grow up can lead to a gulf in opportunity.

I am in the Labour Party to change this. I support policies aimed at addressing the inequality at the heart of many social problems.

For me that means:

  • investing in training and education
  • creating apprenticeships and good jobs with strong rights for workers
  • supporting a living wage, and
  • building more affordable housing.

That I was recently elected to Islington Council to fight for these policies in a by-election in Boris Johnson’s ward, with a 17% swing to Labour, shows how popular this approach is.

Just as Labour needs to listen to voters, the NPF needs to listen to party members. As an NPF CLP representative, I will be available and accountable to all London CLPs. I am keen to attend constituency and branch meetings.

We need to inspire voters with easy to understand, progressive policies – policies with fairness at their heart. I will fight for this on the NPF.

Nominated by 27 London CLP’s, including:

Barking, Bethnal Green and Bow, Brent Central, Chelsea and Fulham, Dagenham and Rainham, Erith and Thamesmead, Finchley and Golders Green, Greenwich and Woolwich, Hackney North and Stoke Newington, Hampstead and Kilburn, Holborn and St Pancras, Hornsey and Wood Green, Islington North, Islington South and Finsbury, Kensington, Kingston and Surbiton, Lewisham Deptford, Leyton and Wanstead, Orpington, Poplar and Limehouse, Richmond Park, Streatham, Tooting, Tottenham, Twickenham, Walthamstow, Westminster North
